How To Establish A Default Email Program

.Dear Computer Lady,

Been fan for years now and you have always come through with great solutions.

This problem should be easy for you, however it is driving me elNutzo!!!!
How do I establish a different “Default E-Mail” program?

I currently use Comcast mail, and also have a g-mail account and yahoo mail.

How do I make one of these a DEFAULT mail program that I can use from any site or program such as a photo editing program?

Thanks for all the years of help and best wishes for your continued success.

Frank

Dear Frank,

The short answer is, you can’t make one of those your default program and use it from programs such as your photo editing program.

Here is why, and what you can do to work around it.

First, your comcast mail, gmail, and yahoo mail are all websites that you view in your web browser and use for your email. They are not using email programs. Your computer can only see them as just another website.

When you are trying to email from a place like your photo editing program for example, you need to have a specific program set up just for email, or it just won’t work.

A good solution, would be to install Mozilla Thunderbird and set up one of your email addresses in it. I have had good success using my gmail address with Thunderbird, but the others would probably work as well.

Once you have installed and set up Thunderbird, your programs will see it as your default email program and you can use it to send a photo or other files.

    Hi Frank,

There are in fact several methods to achieve what you want to do.

Unfortunately at least 2 pcs of info are missing
from your query , Windows version and default browser ,but below answers will set you on your way to check
extensions for other browsers – other than Chrome

    https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/send-from-gmail-by-google/pgphcomnlaojlmmcjmiddhdapjpbgeoc
Makes Gmail your default email application and provides a button to compose a Gmail message to quickly share a link via email

    https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/share-link-via-email/ejdbkikfbnnhmachnnomjfgjbgkcnjkb?hl=en-GB
Adds a context menu item to send the page or a link via email
Allows the current page URL or a link to be emailed by an email client by right clicking.
The list of mail clients shown can be changed.
You can also set up any text to be added before the page URL in the email as well as a signature.

For Firefox and other browsers ,check their extension
    pages.

There’s also a small program to make webmail your deault mailhandler , rather than an installed email client.
Found this at an old link ,but the utility is still current – sortof- Doesn’t work on Win 8 though.

    Hope this helped
