Refilling Ink Cartridges
I have always had an Hp printer and I recently purchased Hp Officejet Pro 8600.
Imagine my surprise when I went to refill the ink cartridge, you can refill them, but the printer will not recognize that it has been refilled and continuously tells me that the cartridge is empty. I feel that I bought the printer and Hp should not dictate me on what to use for ink.
Is it possible to reset the cartridge chips without having to have 2 or 3 other cartridges to basically trick the printer ?

I am not aware of any way that you can reset the cartridge, but perhaps somone else has a way to do this.
Most printer companies don’t make much of a profit when selling their printers (if at all) in fact, they often take a loss on the printer itself. They do make money selling the ink.
In the past, I have found that I can refill a cartridge once or twice before the quality of the print goes down, then I purchase a new set of cartridges and start again.

One thing is to turn off the updates from your printer manufacture, that can create problems with new update in the future. It is unlikely that that will cause a problem. I do it with every printer I buy & they keep on printing. A well known warehouse refills my cart’s that I have used many times over & over.

This may, or may not, work.
Place a piece of black electrical tape over the sensor. Often this trick fools the printer into believing a new cartridge has been installed.
Some users have reported up to another 400 odd pages being able to be printed after doing this. And this is without even refilling the cartridge.
Electronics in the cartridge and the printer was developed by Canon back in the mid 90’s as a way of keeping their obscene profits sky high.
