How To Set Up Dual Monitors

.Dear Computer Lady,

You commented on having two monitors. Love the idea but how do I hook them up and have them show different things at the same time? I tried and only have the 2nd one duplicate the original. Thanks so much.

Love your emails, Deanna

Dear Deanna,

All you have to do is go to the Display settings in the Control Panel and set up how you want the second monitor to work.

Open the Control Panel, and click on “Appearance and Personalization”.

Click on “Display” and then “Screen Resolution”.

You should see a small picture representing your two monitors, with some settings underneath.

Find the setting that says, “Multiple displays:” and click the drop down list.

Instead of “Duplicate these displays”, click to select, “Extend these displays”.

Click the “OK” button at the bottom of the window to save your changes and close the window.

Your two monitors should now act as one large monitor, only your windows wallpaper will be duplicated.

    Deanna,

I’ve been using dual monitors for well over 12 years
so I have a reasonable idea of the many possibilities.

I will address the wallpaper issue with a view on
dual- or multi-monitor programs, but there are many solutions to get a different wallpaper on each monitor.

It starts with the simplest -which may well do the job
for you, to more elaborate and shareware programs.

    http://dualmonitortool.sourceforge.net/ Free
    More Info & download
    http://sourceforge.net/projects/dualmonitortool/
No install -just use the tool you need.

    http://www.murgee.com/ More programs

http://www.displayfusion.com/ Free with limited functionality. (May also work well for you)
Register for $25 + dependent on version

The other option is to use dual monitor wallpaper.
Just do a search using those terms. There are lots of sites.
Alernatively ,you can create your own by using 2 different images and joining them.
Lots of options ,but 2 simple ones here
    Image Joiner

    http://www.mcrenox.com.ar/downloads/
    Jpeg Joiner

Others would be panoramic stitching programs,
but will be too much off topic and the list is long.

    Have fun,
    Pete.
